SUMMARY
The Controller will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial activities of Apex Automation Ltd. Reporting into the CFO and COO, this position requires a detail-oriented and strategic professional who can effectively manage financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance. The Controller will collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing valuable insights to support decision-making processes and ensure the financial health of the organization.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Monitor cash flow, manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, and maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Oversee full cycle financial operations, including year end, GST, WCB, and T4 preparation and filings, and remittances, accounts payable and accounts receivable, Operational accounting and preparing financial records.
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis and provide insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Develop and monitor annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with management.
- Monitor costs, analyze cost drivers, and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements, tax laws, and internal financial policies.
- Review of existing business processes and identify opportunities for improvements that promote effective and efficient workflow.
- Supervise payroll processing and ensure accurate and timely payments.
- Stay abreast of financial related practices, trends, computer/software advances, political or regulatory activities, and competitive or economic changes which may affect the ability of their team to meet objectives.
- Supervise and mentor finance team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, preferably in a professional service environment.
- Proficiency with accounting software (i.e. QuickBooks suite) and open to learning new ERP systems.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting.
- Experience with ERP implementation and project management.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Strong MS Excel skills, and a high aptitude for learning new technologies including exploring MS Power BI.
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and a focus on data integrity
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
PRIMARY LOCATION – Office located in Edmonton-AB.
OTHER OFFICE LOCATIONS – Saskatoon-SK, Calgary-AB, Lloydminster-AB.
WORK ENVIRONMENT – Our team follows a hybrid schedule where employees work in-office a minimum of 3 days a week per week. The balance of the week is flexible and based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. In-office time is used primarily for team meetings as well as formal and informal collaboration. As part of the leadership team, in person engagement is required to support team building and maintenance of culture.
TRAVEL – Travel to our other locations may be required on an as needed basis.

SALARY RANGE – $110,000 - $130,000
